May 16 -17, close to 1,500 drummers of all ages and skills, some simply banging on buckets, enjoyed a “rhythm-filled” weekend as part of the third annual drumSTRONG™ event. drumStrong™ is the signature event for DrumsForCures, Inc., a local non-profit organization that encourages people to focus on cancer awareness, education, support, and funding for research. This year's event, once again held in the beautiful pastures of Misty Meadows Farm in Weddington, N.C. raised over $100,000 (to date).

Points across the globe joined in, adding an additional 500 participants who played with the drummers in real time to raise assistance for their local cancer initiatives. Drumming began at 12 noon on Saturday and continued into Sunday evening – 27 hours of continuous rhythm to BEAT cancer! Participants played through the night, many choosing to camp out in the pastures for the weekend. The event featured a variety of musical acts on the main stage including The Stragglers, The Lamping Shades, Inner Vision, Powerhouse!, and many more. In addition, both conventional and complementary cancer healthcare entities were highlighted in the exhibitors' tent. There was plenty to see, do, and hear!

Founded by Scott Swimmer, drumSTRONG™ honors Scott's son Mason, who at age 15 was diagnosed with cancer. Today, Mason has beaten the disease and is cancer free! Scott, his wife Carola, and sons Mason and Toby are excited about drumSTRONG™, which was created as a natural expression of their family's desire to be a vibrant part of BEATing cancer. “Since rhythm is universal, we decided an event centered on the art and fun of hands-on drumming would be a great way to bring people together,” said Scott. “Rhythm engages all ages, wages and stages of health. Encouraging folks to learn more about and support local and national organizations that assist those dealing with cancer, promote early detection, and to work towards cures…it's a cause that is close to my heart,” he added.

DrumsForCures, Inc. is an official partner of Levine Children's Hospital (LCH). A portion of the proceeds from drumSTRONG™ benefit the pediatric cancer programs and services at LCH.
