Over 200 supporters of Levine Children's Hospital (LCH) gathered last night at Quail Hollow Club to celebrate the many milestones since the hospital's opening six months ago. Guests were greeted by the Tin Man as they found their way down a 'yellow brick road' and into the club.
Guests socialized and enthusiastically responded to remarks from Michael Tarwater, CEO of Carolinas HealthCare System; Smoky Bissell, Chairman of the Dare To Dream Campaign for LCH; and Leonard Feld, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of LCH. Between speeches, 12-year-old Emily Caulder - dressed as Dorothy - brought some people to tears as she sang 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.'
Martha Whitecotton, LCH Administrator, concluded the program with an update on several of the hospital's recent accomplishments, including:
• Más de 100 cirugías cardíacas desde el día de la apertura (los niños recibieron atención en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Cardiología Pediátrica en los Centros Ricky Hendricks de Cuidados Intensivos);
• Seis trasplantes de riñón, dos trasplantes de hígado y un trasplante de corazón;
Whitecotton also shared compelling stories of the care and compassion families receive at LCH. She concluded her remarks by engaging the group with a unanimous, 'There's no place like LCH!!'
Following Martha's remarks, guests enjoyed a 30-minute 'LCH Six Month Update,' broadcasted live on WCNC. The show will re-air this Sunday, June 1, at 12:30 p.m. on WCNC.
